Blessings of God

Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”

The Chapter 46, the Psalmist recognized God as the Refuge for His people.  Because God is our refuge we can be still or cease striving.  Let’s look at each word of the verse.

“Be” – focus on where God has you right now, neither worry over the past nor fret the future.  “Still” – physically but also mentally and emotionally.  Capture those thoughts that take you to dark places or cause your heart and mind to race.  “And” – with God there’s more to life than just “Be and “still.”  The Psalmist elaborated.  “Know” – gain knowledge of God; be in the place where information and intellect intersect with emotion and experience.  Live your faith.  “That” – points to “the why,” “the what” and most importantly, “The Who.”  “I am” – join “I” and “am” because God does.  He introduced Himself to Moses (Exodus 3:14) as “I am.”  Jesus described Himself in the Gospel of John as “I am” – Bread of Life (6:35), Light (8:12), Gate or Door (10:7), Good Shepherd (10:11), Resurrection and Life (11:25), the Way, Truth and the Life (14:6) and the True Vine (15:1).  “God” – THE final word lives as the reason that stillness and knowledge are possible.
His sovereignty ushers in salvation, safety and eternal security.  This week … Be.  Still.  And.  Know.  That.  I AM.  God.
