More headlines today outline biographer Paula Broadwell’s high-profile affair with General David Petraeus. Why is this still a news lead? Well, it remains fresh and it led to Petraeus’ resignation as head of the CIA. That’s certainly newsworthy. And, again, the ramifications of potential national security leaks loom large. That’s not to be taken lightly. We wonder how could accomplished people who’ve done such good fall so hard and so far.
Now, the scenario grows more complicated with the revelation of the third-party, Jill Kelley, who ingratiated herself into the lives of some of the nation’s more senior commanders at MacDill Air Force Base. Star quality wining and dining served as her ticket in. Are we so easily swayed? You couldn’t write fiction this intriguing.
As Mother used to say, “Don’t do or say anything you wouldn’t want printed on the front page of the newspaper.” Of course, with print news on the wane, don’t do it because it just may end up as the lead story on the Internet news. With your photo added in for good measure. Especially you high-profile types. You will be found out … eventually.
Okay, even if you’re not prominent to the world, you are to your family and friends. Personal pain and problems destroy whether it’s made public or kept private.
Then why do we continue to blow it? Consider these thoughts – ” … but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” John 3:19b
Then what do we do? – “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness … “Ephesians 5:11 and “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise.” Ephesians 5:15
“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:10-11
Don’t a lot of our problems boil down to choices? Making the right ones, that is. So, how will you choose to live this day? This week? In darkness or light?
