A New Life for the New Year

If you read “Cow Caper” (see post 12/28) you’ll know we spent Christmas Eve in the clearing of the grove at our ranch rather than attending a church service.  That was thanks to a wayward Angus who needed tending about the time we needed to head out for the service.

Well, my better half was out riding the range in the club car Sunday afternoon and peered into that very same clearing where we sat, read the Christmas story and sang carols a few nights ago.  Better Half stopped when noticing a mama cow and her new-born calf resting quietly and calmly near those same rough-hewn cedar benches.

Out of all the acreage on the ranch, what an interesting place she choose to bring new life into the world – the very spot we worshipped the Source and Giver of Eternal Life.  Quite appropriate, really, and a sweet reminder that worship is a part of every day life.  It doesn’t matter if we’re at home, in the car, at work, in the great outdoors, with a couple of  cows or even in a majestic church building, God is Immanuel.

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).” Matthew 1:23

“Jesus said … ‘I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,'” John 11:25

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (italics mine).

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:4
