Biden and Gun Control

AP reports that Vice President Joe Biden is meeting at the White House with victims groups and gun-safety organizations.  Today’s meeting is part of a series of gatherings Biden is conducting this week, aimed at building consensus around proposals to curb gun violence following the horrific elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

He and gun-control backers face a tough fight. Gun-rights advocates, including the NRA, are digging in against tighter gun restrictions, conservative groups are launching pro-gun initiatives, and the Senate’s top Republican has warned it could be spring before Congress begins to consider gun legislation.

The White House has also scheduled meetings with community organizations, business owners and religious leaders.

In all conversations and negotiations let Jesus’ words direct ours.

“The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” Luke 6:45

And, let them guide our actions.

“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you,” Matthew 7:12

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44

Something to think about whether it’s gun control, political issues, work matters, financial situations, or friends and family interactions.
