Bible Thought Blessings – Philippians 3:9-10a

Blessings of God’s strength this week!  Prayer requests?

Philippians 3:9-10a, “… not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him …”

Recently we added several medium-sized – about 3 inch caliper and 14-17 feet high – Live Oaks along the road leading up to the ranch house.  They line the drive and stand in what has become a wind tunnel between the house and an old grove of oaks, elms and cedars.  To prevent damage the planters pounded in three long stakes for each.  Newly planted trees need a little wiggle room to accommodate winds but not so much that they lean or break.

Imagine our surprise and disappointment when we drove up to the house this week to see three of the trees heavily leaning and one on the ground.  Instead of muttering or moaning we informed the installer who promised to send out a crew to set the trees upright.  He mentioned heavy winds came through last weekend and were most likely the cause of our traumatized trees.

As Christians even if we begin our Christ-directed journey with faith and good intentions, harm and hurt happen.  We may grow discouraged.  Some situations cause us to question and others knock us flat.

What do we do?  Refuse to remain fallen and return to the One who planted our faith in the first place.  We can neither ‘upright’ nor ‘stake’ ourselves.  God does that.  He will place your life in the perfect position, provide freedom within His boundaries of love and permit you to walk upright in His righteousness.  Trust Him, take in His truth and thrive through the ‘winds’ of life.
