Bible Blessings – The Lone Cow – Matthew 5:13-14

Blessings as you serve as God’s salt and light!  Prayer requests?

Matthew 5:13a, 14a, “You are the salt of the earth … You are the light of the world …”

The Angus mamas silently greeted me in the cool of the early morning as I drove up to the ranch house. They glanced my way, spied a familiar vehicle and continued to contentedly munch lush pasture grasses. They usually stay bunched together, after all they are herd animals, and today was no different except for the lone white-faced cow about 100 yards away. She, too, looked my way but remained alert until I lost sight of her around the bend.

Not that cows intentionally exclude other cows but it got me to thinking. As Christians, do we leave out others who aren’t like us? Are all of those we count as friend also fellow believers? If so, how can you and I serve effectively as salt and light for God? We may not even be aware of our actions. We simply feel closer to those like-minded and more drawn to those in our circle of frequent contact. There’s nothing wrong with that but, again, how can we promote the cause of Christ if we only connect with those who agree?

How will you be God’s salt and light? Who will you gather into God’s Holy ‘herd’ today?
