The Happy Mother’s Day

Blessings to all mothers and those who love like mothers! Prayer requests?

“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” Matthew 6:26

Gently rocking in the porch glider last evening I watched the Scissor-tailed Flycatchers soar along overhead breezes and swoop near the ground in search of insects. Nestled at the top of nearby Burr Oaks their young anxiously awaited their return. These fascinating birds offer squeaks rather than twills or tweets to communicate, and their long tails and distinctive black and white pattern with pink wing linings signal their uniqueness in the avian world. Right now the ranch hosts several nesting families and what a pleasure to watch their fanciful acrobatic flights. Both male and female feed the babies so even scissor-tails thrive in nurturing family units. I believe by God’s divine design.

I am grateful God provided me with tender and attentive parents. Although my father died when I was young, his influence continues to impact my life while my mother remains a source of care and compassion. They did not offer perfection, but love, food, guidance, a home and so much more.

Like the birds, our Heavenly Father furnishes us with what we need, and often uses mothers and fathers as channels of blessing. Today you can whisper a prayer of thanks for your parents, and especially your mother – good, bad, indifferent – she gave you life.

If you are fortunate enough to enjoy a relationship, how will you show gratitude? However, if you face brokenness because of her death, illness or choice; now may be the right time to offer forgiveness, and if possible, mend the split, stop the pain, and pour out love.
