Race Running

The Women’s tennis final at the French Open, American Pharaoh’s attempt at winning the Belmont Stakes thus completing the Triple Crown, a Boxing Match, and Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals between Chicago and Tampa Bay are among today’s opportunities to soak up professional sports at its finest. On the amateur side the NCAA World Series Baseball games continue – all finely trained athletes at the top of their game. But what does this have to do with you and me who, by and large, are weekend athletes at best?

Christians are also called to be highly trained in life, and especially, in spiritual life.

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1.

How’s your spiritual training regime? Do you daily run to build endurance in prayer? Do you lift the weights of consistent worship? Do you regularly stretch the muscles of faith? Do you constantly work on the stamina of Bible study? Do you concentrate on the repetitions of Bible reading?

Accept God’s gift of salvation’s grace, but grow each and every day to prove yourself to the cloud of witnesses surrounding you.

Blessings of running strong! Prayer requests?

“Holy Father, strengthen me for life’s race with your grace, mercy and love. Thank you. Amen.”
