A new year, a new word. I tend to reject resolutions and gravitate towards a word. An inspiration. A theme. A verbal mascot. Why? It sticks to my little blonde brain better than a list of should’s, wanna’s, or ought to’s.

Ponderings on the New Year seeped into my morning as I made an hour-long highway drive through intense fog. A misty shroud hid all, but with steady forward progress, the road, signs, and other vehicles miraculously emerged. Closeness brought clarity and confidence that I was maintaining the right track. Of course, the highway, signage, and entry and exit ramps still existed, as I have traveled this stretch numerous times, but being blind to what lay ahead grew unnerving.

The situations of last week don’t wondrously evaporate when the calendar rolls over, solutions don’t suddenly appear, and books aren’t magically written. But with God 2023 can be one of brilliant hope.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope,” Jeremiah 29:11.

We really don’t need everything laid out in sparkling detail, although, that would be nice. We need only trust in a faithful God who loves with the highest, purist love through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5.

And confidently maneuver life’s dips, turns, and detours.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, you are with me. . .” Psalm 23:4.

And rest in the Alpha and Omega, the One Who is, and was, and is to come, the One Who knows all futures, including yours. He is already there. Nothing is too much for God.

“Dear Lord, reveal the unseen when I need to see and the unknown when I need know. Draw me close, hold me tight, and let me follow Your everlasting way in 2023. Thank you, Amen.”

Blessings of new beginnings! Oh, my word? Persistence! And yours?
